TU/e contest 2021

3 May 2021

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU / e) is one of the largest and oldest technical universities in the Netherlands. She is a leading international and occupies a leading position internationally in fields as diverse as construction, chemical engineering, data science, AI, computer science, sustainable innovation, technical physics and biomedical technology. As we know, a broad spectrum of technical talent is being prepared for the labor market at TU / e. As an internationally leading university, TU / e determines the innovative strength of the Netherlands.

The TU / e Contest has been organized for years: an entrepreneurial and innovation competition for Bachelor and Master students of the TU / e. It is used as a means by the TU / e to bring academic institutes and students, government institutions and companies and organizations together in a community in which innovation and co-creation are central. They encourage TU / e students to pitch their creative ideas and projects and further develop them into a feasible concept. Community building and co-creation with the business community are central to this and are of great added value for both students of the TU / e and companies and organizations that belong to the partner network of the TU / e Contest. This year Twice is a partner of the TU / e contest for the first time, and is making a prize available to one of the winning startups.

During their student years, TU/e students are prepared to solve societal challenges. They are provided with a solid foundation in interdisciplinary skills, sustainability and entrepreneurial thinking. Crucial to this is the link with practice and the linking of academic skills with expertise from industry, the public sector and civil society. By continuously interacting with companies and governments at home and abroad, TU/e is able to to combine high-quality knowledge with her students in order to design solutions for the questions of the future.

The TU/e Contest

The first edition took place in 2015 under the name TU/e Contest. This edition was an immediate success. During the 2020 edition, the Covid-19 crisis faced major challenges and we were challenged to think creatively. Despite the fact that most events could not take place live, this edition was also very successful and the quantity and quality of the hybrid events and teams even higher than in previous years. The contest is an entrepreneurial and innovation competition for Bachelor and Master students of the TU / e.

Target contest
The two main goals of the contest are talent development and the stimulation of innovation and entrepreneurship. Interaction between students and the business community plays an important role in achieving these goals. Students work during the contest
working closely with coaches from private, public, social and academic sectors to develop their ideas into realistic and well-founded concepts. The TU / e Contest allows students to think even better about their interests and passions, whereby they are linked during the process to companies and organizations operating in this area of interest.

Opportunities for partners

The competition offers partners a unique opportunity to get to know the most ambitious, creative and enterprising students at TU / e. In addition, this is also a great opportunity to scout innovative technologies and solutions. The contest is supported by an online, interactive and user-friendly platform that enables direct contact and collaboration between participating students and partners. Twice likes to get to know new startups and supports if possible. Twice provides a price for this.

Timeline
The competition lasts 6 months (January 2021 - July 2021) and consists of a number of phases. During the entire process, there will be
online and offline tools offered to students and partners to get to know, interact and collaborate on the
elaboration of the ideas. The highlights of the competition are:
• The Kick Off Event (meeting partners and participating students)
• The Speed Date Event (100+ speed dates between teams and partner coaches)
• Grand Finale (presentation of finalists for jury, network and innovation market)
• Follow-up processes (innovative teams and partners are linked together to further develop the innovations)

Who organizes the TU / e Contest?
The TU / e Contest is a format of Soapbox and is set up and executed in collaboration with the TU / e. Soapbox is a marketing and
event agency with a focus on young people (12-28 years). Soapbox has been working with the TU / e on this large-scale contest format since 2015 and, following the success in Eindhoven, has also entered into a partnership with the University of Twente, Wageningen University & Research and TU Delft. In 2021, competitions according to this contest format will again be organized at the 4 TUs.
