Investment in NL startups doubles in 2019!

Startupday

Wow! Investment in 2019 in NL start-ups doubles!

In today's NRC we read that young Dutch tech companies raised a whopping €1.5 billion in investments last year. That's almost twice as much as the year before. In the coming years, the Netherlands should deliver 1 to 2 potential billion-dollar companies!

Research firm Dealroom made the information available to NRC. Dealroom bases the amount on company disclosures and news reports. Therefore, the total amount of investment money is probably even higher. The investment of 1.5 billion is venture capital , in which investors exchange capital for new shares. This is a common way to finance start-ups built to grow extremely fast. In practice, these are almost always technology companies.

Most of the one and a half billion comes from investment companies such as Amsterdam-based Inkef Capital, which invests money from pension funds, or Peak Capital, funded by wealthy entrepreneurs. The publicly funded Bom Brabant Ventures, in which the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the province of North Brabant participate, among others, also invested some 50 million euros last year. The company mainly puts money into start-ups from Eindhoven. In terms of investment billions, the Netherlands ranks sixth in Europe. Higher rankings are Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland and Sweden.

Nice development!
